Thursday’s Gaming Commission Meeting should be interesting. It is voting whether to approve the motion for reconsideration of the Commission’s denial of a casino license in Brockton. The Commission should approve the motion. The Southeast Region is the only area of the Commonwealth that had not benefited from the Expanded Gaming Act passed in 2011. A full fledged casino is needed in the southeast. The slot parlor has had little impact on repatriating dollars lost to Rhode Island. However, the opening of the Encore Boston Casino has had an impact in repatriating dollars lost to Rhode Island. But this impact will only be short lived. Once the lure of going past Boston for people living south of Boston to go to a casino wears off and the prohibited cost of going to Encore Boston is realized, Rhode Island will get those gambling dollars back. Let’s keep them here! Build casino in Brockton!
